Working in mixed media and ceramic, Roy Kortick creates highly individual landscapes of dense painterly symbolism and phantasmagoric patterns. Using a technique of transforming raw elements, such as resin, Styrofoam, fresco, pigments and clay into paintings, Kortick creates work that conveys a strong sense of past histories and narrative depth. Diverse in both medium and subject matter, Kortick manages to effectively combine high and low art in a unique and potent way.
Roy Kortick was born in 1968 in Providence, Rhode Island, and received a B.A. in Visual Arts and Literature from Bennington College. Kortick’s work has been shown in numerous solo exhibitions worldwide, and been written about in the New York Times, Newsday and Arte Americana, ultimo decennio, among other publications. Kortick lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
