The exhibition Once Upon a Time presents a series of collages where we get to see the largest large cities populated by monkeys, elephants, ancient animals and people from different times. The world in the pictures has become an absurd place and Peter Blake looks amused. The exhibition also contains five portraits, very typical of Peter Blake. A Greek wrestler, a superhero and a trans person are portrayed with the help of oil and collage. The title work Once Upon a A Time is an early work, from 1963. Already in this work we can see the figures who are later population the collages exhibited. The painting ties the exhibition together and shows the breadth of techniques that Blake has mastered to perfection. The various works also shows Blake's always present interest in the odd objects that are left over and people who are not really fictional places.
