Amy Simon

The artist Amy Simon presents an exhibition of drawings at Wedholms Fisk restaurant in central Stockholm.

Simon’s practice has consistently centered on drawing, although she has also worked with photography and sculpture. Her works predominantly consist of series aimed at exploring themes of migration, materiality, and identity within global contexts. What defines us, in the most fundamental sense, is determined by what we leave behind and what we carry with us over the course of our lives. Amy Simon´s earlier works often emerged from the perspective of an observer.

The new series of graphite works originates from an ongoing project consisting of drawings all titled Io (Italian for “I”), embracing an “inward exploration.” This approach involves using her own persona as a model, probing conventions of portraiture, emotion, identity, age, and gender.

The pieces presented are all from 2024, representing a particular moment in time and space. They navigate through the emotional and psychological spectrum invoked by the specific moment they capture.
Amy Simon has exhibited in Sweden, New York, Tel Aviv, Paris, and at the Venice Biennale. Her works are part of private collections and can be found in institutions such as Moderna Museet, Magasin III Museum for Contemporary Art, and Börshuset in Malmö.
