Peter Johansson, Vikten av Svensk Fattigdom, by Alma Löv Museum
This summer, more than any summer before, we are staying in Sweden. Despite the urge to travel abroad, there is so much to see and explore throughout our beautiful country. As always, we love to keep an artsy touch on our adventures and have compiled a list with excursions, all with art in focus.
Let us start on safe grounds and stay in Stockholm. No need to mention that you should pass by the gallery and enjoy our summer exhibtion Photosynthesis, so therefore we head straight to Moderna Museet at Skeppsholmen. Here you can enjoy contemporary art inside and outside of the museum. If you are lucky, several of our artists can be seen in the permanent collections, such as Amy Simon, Robert Rauschenberg, and Nathalia Edenmont.
Continuing our arts-abouts in Stockholm, we recommend passing by the Royal Institute of Technology, to see the permanent exhibition Glaspärlor by Liva Isakson Lundin. Then make your way from the university towards Djurgården, via the middle lane on Karlavägen which is filled with artworks, to explore Alice Aycocks sculptures.
Time ot leave the city! As we hit the roads, we recommend taking a pit stop in Katrineholm to enjoy two public artworks by Linda Bäckström; Big Blue by Linnévägen and Eriksbergsvägen and Blaizon 1 located at Lövåsgården. We are heading towards Simrishamn, and the exhibition Polyfoni 5 at Galleri Thomas Wallner, where you can see works by Love Lundell amongst others, we stop by Wanås Konst to explore the outdoor exhibitions. Whilst in Skåne, we can’t recommend enough to explore the landscape with its beautiful views but if you can, head over to Copenhagen to see Astrid Kruse Jensen in the group show Summer in The City at Martin Asbæk Gallery and visit Kunsthal Charlottenburg for contemporary art.
Thereafter, we head towards the artsy city of Borås, whom have been blessed with the Pinocchio- sculpture Walking to Borås by Jim Dine located at the roundabout at Allégatan. We then leave Borås for Uddevalla, where we can find Fredrik Nielsens sculpture Hjärtat I Staden located at Kungsgatan in central Uddevalla.
It’s time to go north! We head to the museum Alma Löv, located in the forests of Värmland where you can enjoy contemporary artworks from several Swedish artists, thereamongst the perment installation Vikten av Svensk Fattigdom by Peter Johansson. Last stop on our road trip is Avesta Art, where artworks by Ylva Ceder is featured in the ongoing exhibition Facts and Fantasies.
Back in Stockholm, and summers’ long hazy days have been replaced by crisp air and starry nights. Kick in the autumn season by enjoying Stockholms Konsts summer exhibition, taking place around the city and visiting Manifestation Lövholmen, where Dina Isæus-Berlin’s works are on display in late August.
