About

Wetterling Gallery is pleased to announce the first exhibition of 2021 - You're My Favourite Thing by Far. It is a duo exhibition featuring mixed media pieces and paintings by husband and wife Sebastian Blanck and Isca Greenfield-Sanders.

Opening Day will take place February 25, 2021 from 3 - 7 pm.

"This is not just artistic collaboration but something more complex and interesting: It’s a life-long collaboration leading to two distinct artistic viewpoints on the same reality. So, exhibiting their works is also a celebration of two great painters walking through the thing called life together, leading a constant conversation, influencing each other, moving onward at the same pace with their eyes wide open."

- From the text Painting in Parallel, by Daniel Kehlman which is published in the catalogue produced for the exhibition.

The American husband and wife, Sebastian Blanck & Isca Greenfield-Sanders have a lot in common, besides the obvious fact that they are married and have a family with two sons. The two artists move in parallel worlds within their own artistry. With the role as the observer, they portray the small things in life happening around us, but with two different approaches. Blanck's inspiration comes from his own family life and the works are in many ways very personal. His wife stands as his muse and everyday situation with their children often occur in the motives. Greenfield-Sanders on the other hand, turns more to nature. By collecting old slides that she finds second hand, she has an inexhaustible source of inspiration which then becomes motifs and details in her artworks.

On one hand, personal images of the immediate family and on the other hand, unknown strangers but nevertheless both artist's works are perceived as both intimate and anonymous. As viewers we can dive into the motifs and find our own lives within them and interpret them in our own way.

Isca Greenfield-Sanders was born in New York in 1978 and educated in art and mathematics at Brown University. Sebastian Blanck was previously in 1976 in New Haven and took his BFA in painting at the Rhode Island School of Design. They are both represented in art collections around the world and have been exhibited several times in the USA and Europe. They live and work in New York.
